Kansas City Ballet - The Man In Black

A work so inventive, so alert to the music and their lyrics, and so deeply moving.

Why see Kansas City Ballet - The Man In Black?
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black
If you had to pick a recording artist whose sound and style would translate into the elegant medium of ballet, it is unlikely that Johnny Cash's gravelly tones would be at the top of the list and yet this genius work from James Kudelka does just that. A moving and poignant tribute to the Man in Black, the ballet takes us through six of his later songs with soulful grace, cementing his status as a cultural icon with country and western influenced costumes and sculptural yet subtly haunting steps.
Also included in this program is Play by Stanton Welch which takes its score from a very different artist, electronica master Moby and a world premiere from South African choregrapher Andrea Schermoly.
