Lyric Opera of Kansas City - La Traviata at Muriel Kauffman Theatre

Why see Lyric Opera of Kansas City - La Traviata?

Verdi's heartbreaking classic

A heartbreaking tale of a passionate love affair between a sought-after courtesan and her enraptured lover is interrupted by duty and illness in Verdi's La Traviata. A must for any opera lover, and it doesn't get better than this Francisco Zamello-directed production, presented by the Lyric Opera of Kansas City this November. Brimming with Verdi's lush melodies and transporting romance, let the story of Violetta and Alfredo sweep you up in its brilliance.

What is the story?

Adapted from the novel The Lady of The Camellias by Alexander Dumas, La Traviata is the tale of Paris' most winning courtesan Violetta Valery and the honest nobleman Alfredo who finds himself lost to her charms and manages to persuade her to move to the country with him. But abandoning her life of kept luxury proves easier said than done and soon the besotted couple finds the outside world encroaching on their love nest and their reputation has spread much further than they hoped...It's about risking everything for love, even your life.
